Research Field
• Inter-organizational network: business leaders’ social/family ties to other firms/government and their strategic implication
• Entrepreneurship: entrepreneurial firms’ heterogeneous network strategy in the context of accelerators and environmental uncertainty
Research Field Summary
I have two research streams based on network literature and entrepreneurship: First, I examine how corporate leaders’ social/family ties to other firms and governments affect their strategic decisions. For example, in one study, I investigated the effect of family ties between two founder families on their market entry/exit (Academy of Management Journal, 2017). For another paper, I examined how corporate leaders’ social/family ties to home country government affect the formation of international joint ventures during a home-host government conflict. Second, at the intersections of entrepreneurship and network research, my recent works focus on 1) new ventures’ heterogeneous alliance strategy during an economic crisis and 2) startups’ peer networking in an accelerator program.
