Management Accounting is a GMBA core class which will educate you in the ways of how the management side of a firm conducts accounting practices for the business. This class focuses heavily on cost analysis and profit planning with the goal of teaching students how to make decisions based on these analyses.
This class is not only particularly useful for anyone interested in the manufacturing industry but also practical for all MBA students to learn as it allows for a more complete understanding of how many businesses use financial data to make decisions. Some topics you will learn about consist of, but are not limited to, job and process costing, activity-based costing, cost-volume-profit (CVP) analysis, master budget construction, responsible accounting, the balanced scorecard, and target costing.
The course is divided into two modules, one about product costing and profit planning, and the other about using the first module’s knowledge to make decisions and evaluate their effectiveness. Each module includes a case study, a group project, and an exam.
Management Accounting will challenge your preconceptions about how many, and which types of, costs are involved in a business’s operations.
The first module is taught by professor Chih-Hsien Liao (廖芝嫻) and the second by professor Chih-Yang Tseng (曾智揚), you can browse their profiles at the following links:
