Thesis Proposal Competition

To encourage and develop high-quality thesis writing at GMBA, we have initiated the Thesis Proposal Competition. The competition will be held in the Fall semester with the dates announced Thesis Writing Workshop.

 

Target Participants

All GMBA students who are planning to complete their dissertation are encouraged to enroll.  

  • The deadline for submitting the thesis proposal will be in December. 
  • The submissions will be evaluated by a committee of professors and the best submissions will be shortlisted.
  • Shortlisted candidates will be invited to the Presentation session in January. 
  • Participants in the Presentation will have 10 minutes to make their case (including Q&A) to the Judges

 

Rules for Participation

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled GMBA students.
  • Once the Thesis proposal has been submitted, the topic should not be changed.
    • Any applicant wishing to change his/her topic, should contact the Thesis Committee Coordinator early to discuss the reasons and need to change the topic.
  • A GMBA Thesis Proposal can be
    • An Academic Thesis
    • A Case Study
    • A Business Proposal
  • The Proposals should include (See here for a template)
    • a clear introduction to the research problem
    • a background and significance section,
    • literature review,
    • research design and method
  • The Proposal should be 
    • Approximately 2~5 pages in length, excluding references and cover page.
    • Times New Roman 12pnts, double spacing.
    • Citations and Headings should be Academically formatted in APA or similar.
    • Be proofread prior to submission.
  • Once a candidate has been selected as a winner
    • The topic may not be changed.
    • Check-ins will be conducted to ensure prize recipients stay on track and meet quality requirements.
    • The final dissertation must be again submitted for evaluation by the Thesis Proposal Competition Comittee.
    • He or She may be asked to write a blog sharing their Thesis Writing Journey with their peers.


Prizes

Prizes for the competition are divided into two categories:

  • The winner(s) of the Gold Prize will receive a conditional* scholarship reward of up to NT$ 50,000.
  • The winner(s) of the Silver Prize will receive a conditional* scholarship reward of up to NT$ 40,000.
* Scholarships are conditional on meeting GMBA quality standards and rules for participation.
Thesis Writing Workshop

In addition to a class on Quantitative Methods and Thesis Writing, GMBA also offers a Workshop on Thesis Writing.
 

The Thesis Writing Workshop will be scheduled for early November, with the exact date to be announced by the office. The workshop will use a theme-based approach drawing on SRI and ESG literature. The workshop aims to walk students through the process of topic identification, preparing a proposal, matching an advisor, and developing their thesis into a well-formatted, completed project.

Thus, the workshop will:

  • Discuss the importance and purpose of a Thesis for an MBA student
  • Recommend Strategies and Sources for topic identification
  • Introduce the process of writing a Thesis Proposal
  • Discuss the steps to completing the Thesis
  • Demonstrate Appropriate Academic Style
  • Introduce Quality Management Tools
  • Discuss the Approach to the Oral Defense
  • and Introduce Graduation Procedures

A formal agenda for the workshop will be released by the GMBA office.
