The NTU EMBA Presidential Cup Basketball Tournament, held on December 14-15, 2024, at the NTU Medical Sports Stadium, brought together talent, determination, and a sense of camaraderie in an exciting two-day event. With generous support from the EMBA program, this year’s tournament featured high-quality jerseys, trophies, and catered meals, creating an inspiring atmosphere for players and supporters alike. Providing breakfast and lunch at the venue, where dining options are scarce, was a thoughtful touch that not only fueled the athletes but also facilitated valuable networking opportunities. The tournament began on Saturday morning with Team GMBAers taking the court against the Team 76 人. With strong rebounds and disciplined play, the team earned their first victory with a final score of 43:31. After the opening ceremony at noon, featuring a powerful dance performance by the EMBA Dance Club and speeches by Dr. Shing-Yang Hu, Dean of the College of Management, and Professor Ruey-Shan Guo (Andy), the action continued. Team GMBAers faced Team 台旦in a closely contested match but fell short in the final quarter, ending the game at 27:33. However, the team rallied later in the day with an impressive win over Team 捌+玖 (8+9), securing a dominant 78:26 victory through exceptional teamwork and reduced turnovers. On Sunday, GMBAers started strong but narrowly lost a nail-biting semifinal against Team台旦, with a final score of 38:39. Despite the setback, the team displayed resilience and concluded their journey with a commanding 83:58 victory over Team 暴龍隊 (111), clinching third place overall in the tournament. The awards ceremony celebrated GMBAers’ achievements, with Tony Huang (R11) earning the Three-Point King Award, Jim Pai (R95) receiving the Rebound King Award, and Jocy Chai (R10) honored as the Female MVP for her outstanding performance throughout the tournament. This year’s tournament not only showcased Team GMBAers’ skill and determination but also strengthened bonds within the NTU community. The support and camaraderie among players, coaches, and supporters made this an unforgettable experience. Team GMBAers looks forward to building on this success and returning to the court with even greater enthusiasm next year.
