The recent NTU GMBA Career Workshop, led by Alan McIvor, provided a targeted roadmap for international professionals building careers in Taiwan. Beyond securing a job, long-term success in this dynamic market hinges on mastering the interview process, cultural integration, and workplace diplomacy.

A successful job search begins with "finding your line"—defining a clear professional niche—and optimizing your LinkedIn profile. During interviews, candidates must deliver concise, well-prepared responses to behavioral questions. Crucially, they must close the interview with strategic inquiries about the company's challenges, strictly avoiding premature questions about salary or holidays.

Beyond the hiring phase, professionals must focus on "becoming Taiwanese." This involves actively improving Chinese language proficiency to break down communication barriers and adopting the local "hustle mentality" to demonstrate a genuine, long-term commitment to the region's collective success.

Inside the organization, emotional intelligence is as critical as technical skill. Upward mobility relies heavily on aligning with your boss's strategic needs and earning the genuine respect of your colleagues. As professionals advance, managing Taiwanese subordinates requires balancing authority with empathy and a deep understanding of local cultural nuances. Finally, sustaining a robust career requires continuous networking and ensuring that all job transitions are stable, focused, and handled gracefully.
